Hot news out of Germany! The Nissan GT-R set yet another track record of 7 minutes and 29 seconds. For those of you that don’t know that is blistering fast for the Nurburgring track, something many a sports car can not achieve. With that said the GT-R is rapidly making its mark in the automotive hall of fame right out of the box. But the real question may be for how long it can keep that number one ranking. If Chevrolet engineers have anything to say about it, the newest Corvette ZR1 will change all of that. According to the engineers, this rumored 650 horsepower terror should have no problem dispensing all questions and make the GT-R time at the top of the throne a very brief one.

So the GT-R seems to be grabbing the headlines a lot lately. But just how long will it continue to be the darling of the automotive set? We have seen this in the past. Remember the twin turbo 350Z and the turbo Supra? How about the NSX? All were at the top of their game when released, and all faltered within 5 years or less to second run cars, regularly being beaten by the rest of the pack. Nissan has a PR goldmine here, and hopefully they can see this and make regular updates to keep it on top. If not it will be regulated to the past and a minor milestone.

Back in December, 001 gave you a hypothetical bonus of $100k and asked you what you would spend it on. This year, the times must be more difficult, because 009 only gave you each $10k for a car. Would you keep your style up with a used luxury car, or would you skimp on style and go for economy and reliability? The answeres were as varied as the readers, some erring on the side of caution and others rolling the dice to live large with an older luxury make. If you haven’t joined in on this one you might want to check it out and set the record straight for those who have a hard time using good judgment.

If you were the CEO for one of the big three what brands would you keep and what would you axe? We certainly hope the big three are reading because we saw a lot of good advice they could follow to restore dignity and profitability to the American makers. But I have to say, with you guys running the ship, there would be a lot of people heading for the unemployment lines. Funny though it all seems so clear on the outside, but when you get to the top it isn’t quite as clear, now is it? I just glad to not work for the big three.
