The big news this past week was undoubtedly the Detroit Auto Show. With numerous rumors of impending doom for this all important show circulating, Agent001 reported back that the show still had more than it fair share of surprises up its sleeve. Lexus may have the biggest news of the show with the debut of the HS250h hybrid sedan. Based squarely on Prius technology, Lexus hopes to capitalize on the ever increasing market of upscale greenies where the Prius simply may not fit in. But with a new 3rd generation Prius debuting soon after at the show, it became quite apparent that even less affluent greenies were not left in the cold either. Boasting a combined average of 50mpg, the new Prius will remain a force to be reckoned with over the next few years.

Not to be outdone by rival Toyota, Honda chose the Detroit Auto Show as the venue for the debut of the all new Insight Hybrid. With a price tag almost $5,000 less than the Prius the new Insight will draw in even more buyers to Honda showrooms. While the Prius may win outright in the mileage category, the Insight may still mop up when it comes to overall savings with a lower purchase price.

Are the horsepower wars dead? Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division certainly wants us to think so. Focusing more on weight savings and higher technology AMG hopes to maintain their edge without overall horsepower increases. This is similar to Audi’s decision to move from a V8 to a supercharged V6 for the S4. Sometimes less equals more.  Has anyone BMW yet?

If you dared to think nothing went on a Detroit then you never looked at our exclusive Detroit Auto Show Gallery. With almost 1200 images documenting the event, anyone would be hard pressed to believe that this event was past its prime. While everyone does their best to be the best in the show, Agent001 couldn’t help but notice there was one stand out for worst in show this year. Yes I said worst. After scanning the landscape it was quite apparent that this year one car stole the show for being the furthest off target of any manufacturer. Check out our choice and see if this one is really deserving of the title.
