News on the home front for Lexus has been pretty sparse lately. No doubt they are focusing on recent plunge in sales and subsequent unseating of the number one sales spot by BMW. But just how do you spark the interest in your brand in such dire times? Well Lexus may have found the ultimate way, by slapping a slew of improvements on their already potent IS-F, and then price that same car at a cool $250,000! Yes sir, I guess if you can’t move them out at $50,000, just put some carbon fiber on it and mark it up five fold. Now that is marketing.

We have devoted a lot of time to Hyundai lately. No doubt their PR machine is well oiled lately and is busy with new models. This week is no exception of course as images of the next generation Sonata leaked out. I predict this is a sharp looking car that will continue to boost Hyundai’s image over the next few years. But with the good also comes the bad. Especially considering all of those recent quality improvements they have made, maybe now be haunted by a series of recalls totaling a staggering 1 million cars for a variety of issues. Some weeks you just can’t get ahead.

A few months ago when Volkswagen announced they would dominate the world market in the next decade I distinctly remember the laughing. Just how was Volkswagen EVER going to take over Toyota in 100 years much less 10? Well imagine the skeptics surprise when the 1st quarter of 2009 preliminary figures show Volkswagen may have stripped Toyota as the world largest automaker a full 9 years earlier than announced. That recent revelation clearly shows just how clever Porsche has been with the recent stock holder takeover of Volkswagen. That one move has allowed Porsche to now sell themselves to Volkswagen and now enjoy the benefits of scale and control. A classic case of David slaying Goliath.

To drive or not, may seem like a simple question to most of us. If you love driving you typically own a BMW or some other enthusiast brand. However if you are simply too busy or wealthy you typically elect to ride and leave the driving to someone else. So with that in mind should you drive the new Rolls Royce Ghost, or should you simply ride? Both have their merits but it sounds like a lot of you may not agree on which mode is the best.
